Finally I got to compile all the little pieces together to make this giant Disney theme park- inspired “IT’s A SMALL WORLD” painting that we did at the Art Camp last Summer @tippcityartscouncil .. each tile was made by a kid and it’s unique in its own sweet way.. I added some tiddly bits to make it complete and look like a castle and mounted the whole thing on to an MDF.

Let’s just say I got a teeny bit carried away with all those lovely colors and memories from “It’s a Small World” ride at Disneyland.. I think I’m going to make little people later and layer it on top of this painting..

The attraction itself designed by Mary Blair was inspired by her paintings of Children she had met on her research trip to South America. Blair has also design many murals based on the concept of It’s a Small World. Originally the attraction was part of the Pepsi-Cola- sponsored pavilion at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, which was then moved to Disneyland after the Fair was closed. The attraction has been replicated numerous times at the Disney theme parks around the world. The unique use of colors characterized Blair’s concept art for various attractions, Disney movies and Murals. She also did murals using mosaics.

It’s part of three paintings I learned during the Gond Art Masterclass.

Gond painting is predominantly practiced in various parts of central India and the tribe is one of the largest in the Madhya Pradesh region… Predominantly depicting nature with its distinctive patterns and colours, Gond paintings are made traditionally on walls of tribal huts and further moved to canvases using natural pigments, its lineage dating back to approximately 1400 years.

Amidst all this I realised as I set up my home studio that there’s a lot to explore in art and I should be starting right there. With a lot of gratitude for all the materials, time, energy and money I’ve invested so far, I wanted to do something without worrying about whether or not it’s perfect, follows norms or means anything to anyone else. I thought I should just make art for myself and that’s exactly what I am going to do starting today - commit to making art everyday consistently. And possibly be accountable.

I made some samples for my kids to have reference in class… with about a week until graduation, I’m planning to go all out and design my graduation cap!!! Planning to create miniatures of the pieces that I made for all my lessons to go on my cap! Follow along to see how it goes.. I’m pretty excited.. this would be my first (very first) proper graduation ceremony, with the walk, the hood and everything!!!! YAAY!!!

About two months ago I created a smaller version of the Rainbow Chakra Mandala. The 9X12 composition in a vintage pastel color palette is among my most favourite pieces so far.. I’m working on another similar piece right now but this I just love.
